Here are a few things I wish I had known while starting my career as a freelance writer
Work on diverse topics – It helped me improve my research skills while starting my career
Working on diverse topics is a fantastic way to gather knowledge about various subjects while improving your research skills. As is popularly said nowadays, googling is a skill, and searching for the right terms the right way is crucial. At least till modern AI search engines take over!
Experimenting with different styles of writing
If you’re planning to become a writer like I did while starting my career, you understand that there are various styles of writing. While having a style of your own is important, it is essential that you try out different styles. Try formal writing, technical pieces, blogs, SEO content, copies for marketing, social media content, etc, etc. The more you are open to including good bits from all different styles into your own, the better you become despite the style you may fixate on later!
Creativity starts reflecting in your work with patience and practice
Write, write, and write more. There is no alternative to experience. Write good content, bad content, and mediocre content. The more you write, the better you are at judging your own work and that is important!
Hard work and experience gained always pay off in the end
It really does. The struggling phase was a reality for me while starting my career like many others in most professions. Keep performing and pushing ahead even when you have started achieving the goals you have in the beginning!
