Table of Content

From the house of BHIVE, we present to you the top 7 must read books chosen by the editor.

The Humankind by Rutger Bregman – A book that gives you a better perspective of life and about other fellow humans. A not-so-pessimistic anthropologic approach to observing humans. Also gives you a better perspective of humans and our effect on it (or of not having much of an impact, however, you’re open to view it)

The human kind - 1/7 of must read books

Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts – A long yet fascinating read which dives into the psychological mindset of a man on the run. Also about the man being embraced by the slums of Mumbai. A fascinating book about an even more fascinating persona indeed.

Shantaram - 2/7 of must read books

Azadi by Arundhati Roy – Trigger warning. If you’re a person who has a highly jingoistic approach to nationalism, Arundhati might not be your cup of tea. But, if you’re someone who has more of a left-leaning philosophy, she can become your jam!

Azadi - 3/7 of must read books

The Glass Palace by Amitav Ghosh – Easily ranked among the top 5 writers in India. Amitav Ghosh’s style of storytelling will leave you in awe and inspired! He is among a rare breed of writers who can transpose you to geographies you may or may not have been to before!

The glass palace - 5/7 of must read books

Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamandi Ngozi Adichie – Adichie talks about the struggles of a young girl, placed in the rough environment of African suburbs. With a struggling childhood, tougher adolescence and a strong matured adult phase, the book takes you through the realities of a woman in real life.

Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami – Murakami is well known and has a way of connecting you with your younger self like many young writers strive to be. Norwegian Wood is the more popular book by the author!

The Devil’s Advocate by Karan Thapar – If you’re interested in journalism, politics, foreign affairs or the subcontinent’s history, this well-written book by Thapar is for you. Taking you through tales of figures like the Gandhis to Musharaff, this is a great biography of a man who was never defined by jingoism or toxic national, but a pure out-and-out journalist!
