Building an education social enterprise Villgro, in partnership with BHive Workspace and Teach for India, brings you the inaugural edition of Unconvention Speaker Series Bengaluru.

The education sector is fast growing with more companies focussed on learning and content solutions for children, with an eye on scaling impact. Interest in education startups has also grown exponentially. In 2015 alone, there were 18 impact investments in the education space, eight of them between $100,000 – $500,000 (Rs 65 lakh to Rs. 3.25 crore). Two-thirds of them were in the K-12 (Kindergarten to Std 12) segment. To offer two kinds of perspectives, this session will have entrepreneur Brajesh Mishra talking about his journey in building Varthana and Kavita Rajagopalan, Investment Manager for Education at Villgro on investing in education startups.

4.00 PM – Introduction

4.05 PM – Building an education social enterprise – Brajesh Mishra

5.00 PM – Q&A

5.15 PM – An investor’s perspective on education social enterprises – Kavita Rajagopalan

5.30 PM – Networking with the Villgro team

Brajesh Mishra – Founder, Varthana

As Director and Chief Operating Officer, Brajesh looks after the operations side of the business – from client acquisition to credit assessment; from banking operations to customer relationship management. Brajesh firmly believes that the bottom up approach is the only way to address the issues of education in the country and hence it is critical to empower the school owners with the best resources available – access to credit, access to solution providers, access to a global network and access to ideas. His dream is to have Varthana play a pivotal role in the transformation of affordable education in the country.vann22
